Aims and objectives
This is a simple multi-lingual resource, supported by audio, which
helps non-English speaking recent arrivals to gain basic communication
skills.
Previous knowledge
No previous knowledge is needed for this activity.
In the classroom
The aims of this activity are to provide a simple multi-lingual
resource, supported by audio, which helps non-English speaking
recent arrivals to gain basic communication skills.
The activity contains sets of simple animations and images that
express words or phrases commonly found in and around the school.
When an image is clicked on, a phrase is 'spoken' which describes
that animation. This is particularly useful with younger children
who may have limited language skills. They can play with the activity
to find the phrase they want then ‘tell’ the teacher
or a friend what they want to express. This gives them a voice
which in other circumstances they may lack.
The activity contains over 45 phrases using 9 different scenes
and is available in Bengali, English, Gujarati, Mirpuri, Punjabi
and Urdu.
