NASA
was formed in 1958, but the space age began in the 1940s. The first
rockets were unmanned. The first animal in space was a dog called
Laika.
Early
journeys into space were in rockets. Now orbitors are used to go round
the earth and find out information. These have a crew of seven people.
An International Space Station is now being built as a platform for
scientists to live and work in space.
