Learning objectives
T14: To select and evaluate a range of texts for clarity and quality of information.

Revise Y5 T2, S5: To transform direct into reported speech and visa versa, noting changes in punctuation and words that have to be changed or added.

Text Level Work (15 min) Sentence Level Work (15 min)

Look at Exercise together. Read text. Discuss technical vocabulary.
Discuss the use of the diagrams and how they help to explain the content. Ask children to demonstrate the movements.

Read the speech bubbles about exercise. Point out that the bubbles contain the actual spoken word.
Rewrite it using speech marks and other punctuation. Discuss other verbs to use instead of said.
Then ask children to explain what has been said, write this as reported or indirect speech.
Independent Work (20 min)
Reinforcing work done in Sentence Level
PCM 2 and PCM 3
Plenary (10 min)
Write an example of direct/reported speech. Children change one to the other.
