It's all about me...every day matters! Why should I go to school?

Because they say so?
OR
Because YOU say so!

Going to school is about YOU and YOUR future.

building my future

Be there!
Turning up at school is about more than
walking through the school gates
every morning (though that’s important!)
It means turning up on time, every day, ready to learn!
Be fit!
There are lots of ways you can get ready
for learning.
Look for ideas about healthy living.

Believe
Believe in your ability to learn. We’ve
all got it. From the very moment we are born
we are programmed to learn – how else did
we learn to speak, move about and feed ourselves?
...I can do it!
Be a winner!
Sometimes learning can get difficult. You might start to feel that you just can’t do it. Most of us have felt like that at some time or other – don’t give up!

Be your own person
Other people can sometimes make you feel that
you don’t want to go to school. Or perhaps
you feel pressure not to look like you are trying to learn because
others might tease or bully you.

At these times you have to be strong –
Think about what is important to you: are you
going to let them stop you from getting what you want
for your future? Get help from adults or other
friends –
you are not on your own:

Achieve in your way
Remember that achieving at school is not only
about academic subjects and exams. Getting
involved in extra curricular activities and clubs, or
having an interest or hobby out of school all adds
to your achievements.
If you are in Y9 or Y11 ask at school about
your options regarding vocational courses.
Be there every day
Learning is like building a wall brick by brick.
Walls with bricks missing are not good!
Having to go back and put in missing bricks can
be difficult – and it can take a long time to find the
right one to fill the gaps.
Don’t waste time by missing school –
it’s your time!

Be organised
Being ready to learn means
making sure that you are
prepared and organised.

Make sure you have

PE kit! Text books for today’s lessons!

Homework when it’s due!

Use your planner – know your timetable!

Behave
Good behaviour is all about making the classroom
a good place to learn.

Don’t get in the way of learning by
messing about – it’s your time you
are wasting!

You have decided that you want to learn – don’t
let others get in your way.
Ignore distractions.
